Stanley Hill (1921 to 2003) first began to do ironwork when he was twenty years old in the Buffalo New York area. During World War II, he served in the US Navy in the South Pacific and became a deep sea diver to repair damaged battleships. He returned to continue iron working, eventually forming his own construction company. When he retired from iron working Stan began his new career as an antler and bone carver. He is considered one of the premier Haudenosaunee artists. Stan believed that what ever career you pursued,  you must work hard, be thorough, and insist on excellence in your work.
