THE FOOD PLANTS
We think of all of the food plants of the world. There are so many kinds.  The food plants help the people, birds, insects, and animals to live. The food plants provide the nourishment that we all need so that we can go about our daily activities. We are especially grateful to the corn, beans, and squash.  They are known to us as “The Three Sisters”.  They are the staples of the traditional Haudenosaunee diet.  When corn, beans and squash are planted separately, they grow.  But when they are planted together, they help each other to grow better. They give us strength, but they also remind us to work together and to cooperate with one another. We gather all of the food plants together in our minds and send them warm greetings, words of love, and expressions of gratitude.
Now our minds are one.
