The Hiawatha Wampum Belt represents the founding of the Iroquois Confederacy. The center image stands for the council fire which is held by the Onondaga Nation near Syracuse, New York. The end squares represent the Mohawk Nation in the east and the Seneca Nation in the west of New York State. They are referred to as the Doorkeepers. The Oneida Nation is west of the Mohawk and the Cayuga Nation is east of the Seneca. The white beads represent “peace, love, charity and equity”
