The Conference on Iroquois Research
is a small gathering of researchers (historians, anthropologists, linguists,
archaeologists, Iroquois, and others) seriously interested in Iroquois studies.
It has met since 1945 to discuss current research. The first
meeting was held at Red House, NY in 1945. The conference now meets at the Renssealerville Institute Conference Center in Rensselaerville, NY.
Most people who attend stay at The Rensselaerville Institute where the conference is held, allowing for lots of opportunities to discuss both formally and informally. The 2008 conference will be held from the 3rd to the 5th of October. (This is usually a gorgeous time of year in upstate New York. The Institute is about 45 miles from Albany, NY). There is only one set of meetings. Papers are not given simultaneously. Therefore, persons attending the full conference have the opportunity to hear all of the papers, if they so choose. In addition to the formal papers, meals, walks on the campus, and late night talks in the residence lounges provide valued opportunities to share insights and reflections for those attending the full conference.
Pre-registration for the conference is necessary. The registration deadline is July 1, 2009. Accommodations at the Rensselaerville Institute Conference Center and space on the program are provided on a first come/first served basis upon receipt of a completed registration form and payment.
