Clan Pot

Beautifully crafted clay vase by Onondaga artist Pete Jones.  
In this pot,  he features the nine Onondaga clan animals - Hawk, Heron, Snipe, Bear, Wolf, Deer, Beaver, Eel, Turtle.  H: 5.50"
 
Jones began working the clay at age seven, encouraged by both his parents. At the age of fourteen, he enrolled at the then-fledgling Institute of American Indian Arts, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is well known for his perceptive clay sculptures, but refers to his pots as his "bread and butter." These pots are white clay, incised with images from his cultural heritage and enhanced with colorful glazes. Jones’ sculpture has earned him commissions including two monumental bronzes in Akron, Ohio. His work has been exhibited widely and is in the collections of the Heard Museum, MFA in Boston, Everson Museum, Museums of Anthropology in Berlin and Frankfurt and the Iroquois Museum in Howes Cave, NY.
