This piece was crafted by renowned artist Julius Cook (1927 - 1999) of the Mohawk Nation, Akwesasne. Best known for his striking compositions and masterful wampum shell and gemstone inlay, his worked is treasured by museums, friends and family.  His creations reference his Kanie'keha teachings and elements of the natural world with each piece carrying an explanation of the meanings behind his original designs. His repertoire included exquisitely crafted rings, pendants, necklaces, belt buckles and earrings in silver and gold. In addition to his art, Julius was an orator, Tribal Chief, musician & ironworker.

This Snipe Clan pendant is Mother of Pearl with inlaid turquoise chips.  Hangs on 20" white gold chain.
