Clan Animal Vase

Clan Animal Vase

SKU: 1011c

Beautifully crafted clay vase by Onondaga artist, Peter B. Jones.   In this pot, he features the nine clan animals of the Haudenosaunee. H: 6.50 inches. Brown glaze.

Jones began working the clay at the age of seven, encouraged by both his parents. At the age of fourteen, he enrolled at the then-fledgling Institute of American Indian Arts, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is well known for his perceptive clay sculptures, but calls his pots his "bread and butter." These pots are white clay, etched with images from his cultural heritage and enhanced with colorful glazes. Jones’ sculpture has earned him commissions including two monumental bronzes in Akron, Ohio. His work has been exhibited widely and is in the collections of the Heard Museum, MFA in Boston, Everson Museum, Museums of Anthropology in Berlin and Frankfurt and the Iroquois Indian Museum in Howes Cave, NY.
