Shelly Vaughn, Oneida Nation, Bear Clan

Shelly resides at Allegany Reservation in western NY.  She first learned to do beadwork from her mother Shelia Sayers at the age of 5, a skill Shelly still greatly enjoys. At a young age, Shelly also became interested in finger weaving, a technique used to create old style sashes. Her grandfather offered instruction, but as a youngster Shelly found it difficult to master. At age 50 Shelly returned to the challenge and began teaching herself from a book. She is still trying to perfect this uncommon skill.
